A diatribe about
Corporate A-Souls
who "know what's best for us"
even if we're too stupid to understand it.

"Those of us in industry can take comfort of a sort from
such obvious
Luddism. After all, we're the technical experts. We know we're right. The
'antis' obviously don't really understand the science, and are just as
obviously pushing a hidden agenda - probably to destroy capitalism."
Robert
Shapiro, CEO of Monsanto. "The welcome tension of technology: The need for
dialogue about agricultural biotechnology." Center for the Study of
American Business, CEO Series, no 37, February 2000.
Harpeau replies:
Dialogue? Then why not listen to the millions of
people who
do not want to eat cancer with their Kellogs cereals? I wrote
to Kellogs and Frito Lay about using genetically engineered products
in their foods, and they kindly told me to get stuffed
because my government (Canadian)
said they could use them-- (so there!).
In other words, if anything awful happens,
you can't sue us.

You don't have to be an Oracle at Delphi
to know Novartis and Monsanto
have been cheating and stuffing this faux-food into your kids' mouths, but do
they, themselves want to eat it? NO
WAY!
.
"BRUSSELS - Novartis, one of the world's largest providers of seeds for
growing genetically modified (GM) food, confirmed yesterday that it has made
its own food products GM-free. The Swiss agribusiness and pharmaceuticals
giant
which is at the forefront of GM crop technology
banned genetically modified ingredients from all
its
food brands worldwide from the end of June this year.
The policy was revealed in a letter the company sent to the Belgian
office
of Greenpeace in an attempt to get the environmental group to include
Novartis on its list of GM-free food producers."

But the real kicker is this bit of blatant hypocrisy on the
part of
A-souls at Novartis:
"Asked if Novartis'
anti-GM stance conflicted with its position as a
vociferous promoter of GM seeds, the spokesman said: "That's a totally
different question."
"All our business centres operate independently in totally different
markets. The market for seeds is totally different from the market for food
products," he said."
nota bene:
THIS IS A LOSE/LOSE SITUATION FOR THE
CONSUMER

So, here is a company who bribes and cheats*
to get its GMOs in the
ground and on the shelves of food stores WITHOUT LABELS, (why
should you
have a choice?) but wants you to know that, as a company,
they wouldn't eat them or use them.
But will they stop forcing these faux-food
seeds on poor farmers? No.
Will they stop producing the GMO seeds?
No.
Why? Because
" The market for seeds is totally different
from the market for food
products." (so there!)
*"Golden
Harvest deceived its customers and wanted to go around EU and French
laws in forcing unauthorized GMOs. Having done this, it risks compromising
the reputation of all maize from southwest France," Apoteker added.

FAQ:
If this untested genetic technology and its resultant poisons
are being shunned by the company who created them, do you
think they're safe to ingest?
NOVARTIS AND
MONSANTO would say:
When consumers educate themselves and stop
being so stupid, maybe they will accept the inevitable.
What do you say? Do you mind that you and your kids
are
being used as unwilling and/or unwitting lab animals for
this great experiment?

"The Monsanto Co. says it will give away certain patent rights
to expedite the use of a genetically modified rice that could
save millions of malnourished children in poor countries from
death or blindness.
The Washington Post reports that the company intends to grant
patent licenses at no charge to the developers of "golden
rice? -- a genetically modified rice enriched in beta caro-
tene, the building block of Vitamin A.
According to the paper, more than a million children weakened
by Vitamin A deficiency die every year in poor countries, and
at least 300,000 more lose their sight.
The company announced its offer at an agricultural conference
in India.
Ingo Potrykus, professor emeritus at the Federal Institute of
Technology in Switzerland, used technology owned by Monsanto
and others to invent golden rice. He has been crusading to
get the product accepted around the world, and distributed
free to peasant farmers in poor countries where rice is grown."
(If Monsanto et al are so worried about the world's
starving children,
Why not give these "peasant farmers" plain old natural rice instead?)
Obviously, Montsanto is of the
opinion that
"Beggars can't be choosers"
Let's hope they're wrong
